UltiMaker has launched the UltiMaker S8 3D printer, the next generation of its professional S-series. The new dual material 3D printer hits print speeds up to 500 mm/s and accelerations up to 50,000 mm/s², which UltiMaker rates at up to four times the productivity of the S7.

The launch also adds the new Nylon CF Slide material, the AA+ and CC+ high-flow print cores, and Cura Cloud inside Digital Factory. UltiMaker announced the printer on March 11, 2025. The S8 is now in stock in Australia through Australian 3D Printers as the standard unit and as the S8 Pro Bundle.

4x Faster Speeds With UltiMaker Cheetah

The headline change is UltiMaker Cheetah, a new motion planner. Cheetah works out the printer's motion path so it speeds up faster without losing accuracy. Rated precision is 0.15 mm ± 0.15%. Input shaping and pressure advance cut down ringing, blobs, and stress at high speeds.

A new electronics board sits behind Cheetah. The board offers up to 5x the processing power of the S7. The extra headroom supports future firmware updates without a new hardware buy.

New AA+ and CC+ High-Flow Print Cores

The S8 ships with two new hot-swappable print cores. The AA+ 0.4 handles general engineering filaments. The CC+ 0.4 handles abrasive composite materials. UltiMaker rates the new cores at 2.5 times the flow of the previous AA and CC cores. The higher melt rate keeps pace with Cheetah's faster motion.

A redesigned hardened feeder pairs with the new cores. The feeder uses a new gripper wheel for stronger grip on the filament at high speeds. The grip protects print reliability when running engineering-grade filaments.

Engineering-Grade Materials and Nylon CF Slide

As a dual material 3D printer, the S8 prints two filaments in a single job. The printer reads the full UltiMaker Marketplace catalogue, which lists more than 300 third-party and UltiMaker filaments.

The launch also adds UltiMaker Nylon CF Slide. It is a Nylon 612 CF copolymer aimed at industrial tooling, packaging lines, and factory parts. Engineers tested the formula against ten rival filaments. The team ran bearing and tab tests under high pressure and velocity. Nylon CF Slide came out as the strongest pick for low-friction moving parts. The material has a Z tensile strength above 40 MPa. It holds up at temperatures up to 180°C after annealing. The PFAS-free formula meets current global rules. The new filament works as a 3D-printable swap for POM in custom moving parts.

Cura Cloud and UltiMaker Digital Factory

The S8 integrates fully with UltiMaker Digital Factory. Digital Factory now includes Cura Cloud, the browser-based version of the UltiMaker Cura slicer. Users slice and queue prints from one dashboard. Subscription tiers cover individual users through to global production fleets.

Data sits in regional storage with encrypted file transfer. The printer adds firewall protection and an optional pin-code lock on the device.

What UltiMaker Said About the S8

Marc Uyttenboogaard, Product Manager at UltiMaker, framed the launch as the next stage of the S-series:

“We believe that the UltiMaker S8 sets a new standard in 3D printing, building on the legacy of the S series with significant improvements. We have engineered the S8 to provide faster printing speeds, improved reliability and precision, robust security features, enhanced connectivity, and dual-material capabilities. Integrated with Digital Factory and Cura, the S8 offers users a simple, secure, and efficient 3D printing experience.”

Michiel Alting von Geusau, CEO at UltiMaker, framed the launch as a customer-led decision:

“We are thrilled to launch the UltiMaker S8, the next generation in our popular S series, built with customers in mind. With our growing 3D printing ecosystem, we aim to provide customers with a variety of solutions that will fit their production needs.”
